Mentions and sentiments on the dashboard

The “Mentions” section onto dashboard basically shows you the number of times your business has been mentioned online and what’s being said about your business on various web properties such as websites, blogs, news portals, video sites, etc.

We track business mentions for the last 30 days on our dashboard. The default settings for tracking is Your Business Name and Your GEO. Lets say, your business name is XYZ Dental and GEO is Dallas. In this case, the crawler will find all instances of content which has the words “XYZ Dental” and “Dallas”. You can change this in Settings to track other words as well.

This gives an overall idea about how your business is being looked at by online users and allows you to make critical business decisions. You know something is wrong if the overall sentiment is negative.

Talking of sentiment, we calculate this by categorizing the tracked mentions into 3 baskets – Positive, Neutral and Negative. The content on each and every page (where your business is mentioned) is scraped for certain keywords. For example, if the content has more negative words such as “bad”, “negative”, “awful”, “dislike”, etc. the content is treated as negative. If the content has more positive words such as “happy”, “good”, “best”, “like”, etc. we treat it as positive. And if the content doesn’t have either negative or positive words, it is neutral. This is all done automatically.

However, there are cases where the overall content is positive but due to more negative words, it is considered as negative. In such cases, you have the option to manually set the content as positive from the dashboard. Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Click on the Filter Icon and Select “Very Negative” from the dropdown. This will display all negative reviews that have been tracked.

Step 2: Click on the blue “View Detail” button. If you feel the content is actually positive, select the checkbox besides the listing.

Step 3: Now, to change the sentiment, select “Very Positive” from the dropdown above. This will ensure the content is now treated as positive.
